Our Story
Château de la Couronne is a family-run wedding venue, proudly led by siblings Lucy and Ben. Their parents, Andrea and David, discovered the château in 2022 while relocating from Portugal. Already an established venue, it was the perfect place for Lucy and Charlie’s wedding and a new family business.
Over nine months, the family undertook extensive renovations, investing over €1 million to breathe fresh life into the château. Ground-floor stone walls were revealed, new flooring installed, and the banquet hall received a new ceiling. The second and third floors, unused for decades, were transformed into nine luxurious bedrooms, while former office and apartment spaces became ‘The Garden Suite’ and ‘The Coach House.’
The gardens, once simple and overgrown, were meticulously restored with flowering trees, fountains, and a re-tiled pool, preserving the château’s magical charm.

The History
Dating back to the 12th century, Château de la Couronne was closely linked to the nearby Abbey of La Couronne. Once owned by the Lady of La Couronne, the estate suffered major damage during the Hundred Years’ War.
In 1449, Bertrand Farinard acquired the estate, later passing it to his daughter Louise as a dowry when she married Mathieu de Chambes in 1564. By the late 1600s, it remained in the Chambes family before passing through the Viaud, Modernard, and De Fornel families.
In the late 1800s, the De Fornels renovated the château, adding turrets, slate roofs, and formal gardens with yew alleys, fountains, and exotic trees. During World War II, the château housed French troops in the Vichy Zone.
In the 1970s, it became a residential training centre and summer camp—later inspiring the film Nos Jours Heureux. The Cooper family began restoration in the 1990s.
In 2023, Lucy and Ben Butler purchased the château and transformed it into a luxury destination wedding venue.
