"So thoughtful"

I rarely write reviews (this is my 1st for trip advisor) but Chateau de la Couronne is just too good. An ideal place to gather with family and friends – I married my wife there 5 years ago (2010). Returning this year (2015) for our 5 year anniversary solidified that this chateau is my favorite place to live life when we decide not be at home. The ambience and intangibles (Nicky & Mark, the owners, provide an exceptional experience – more below) associated with Chateau de la Couronne have provided me with some of life’s happiest and greatest memories. First – the tangibles. Large rooms, high ceilings, exposed stone (walls) and wood (ceilings), fire places, etc provide the presence one expects from a chateau. Complementing the stunning architecture is a blend of traditional French and modern furniture – a perfect balance of things old and new. My wife and I love the aesthetics of this chateau – charming, luxurious, sophisticated but not pretentious. Since I am not one to sit around during a vacation I often crave things to do. Swam in the heated pool, ran & cycled on the nearby and scenic trail, played pool/billiards in the billiard room, watched a movie in the movie room - all things I’ve done during my stays. In our more recent visit we took day trips to Bourdeaux/St Emilion region (~2 hrs by car) and have enjoyed many of the area’s (within 5-30 mins drive) fine dining experiences. Also of note are the breakfasts prepared by Mark – diverse & delicious! Secondly, and most importantly – the intangibles. Nicky and Mark are incredible hosts. Personable, thoughtful, attentive (without getting in the way), flexible and genuinely good, down to earth people (they are pretty stylish in my view too). They provide everything you would expect from a 5-star venue and more. Two recent examples – 1) my wife casually mentioned the discovery of her “new favorite cheese” when sharing a dinner story from the night before – a cheese that we had looked to find in several places but were unsuccessful. To my surprise and to my wife’s delight Mark had sought, found and purchased (at a place 30 mins away) the cheese to serve as part of our breakfast on our last day! Moreover, Mark purchased an additional block of cheese for us to take with us! 2) On the day of our departure Nicky & Mark gave us a hand-written note for our 5-year celebration including a special bottle of white wine from their private collection that they had purchase nearly 30 yrs ago. It's been a long, long time (if ever) since someone in the service industry went out of their way to do something as thoughtful as those things! Chateau de la Couronne offers a rare combination of style, substance and service. We will go back again, and again, and again…

"Absolutely Amazing"

From the initial enquiries to our several visits leading up to the wedding day Nicky and Mark were absolutely amazing! Nicky is a fantastic wedding planner and there was no point at all where I felt worried or anxious - even on the W day itself! The chateau is beautifully decorated and every room has the WOW factor, I was so pleased we could share this piece of heaven with our guests! The catering and flowers were orchestrated perfectly by Nicky too - the food was to die for, Nadia and her team are incredible! If you are looking for a holiday or hiring the chateau for a special event I couldn't recommend La Couronne more.

"A Breath of Fresh Air"

Firstly, I'd like to express how wonderful, warm, welcoming and fabulous both Mark and Nicky are - they are both a delight to be around and so very helpful. Both lovely people, who are willing to have a chat about the Hotel, the area, local restaurants, shops, things to do and they'll also pay an interest in their guests, they really are a breath of fresh air. From the second of walking into LC, both my husband and I were amazed. It is simply stunning. The building itself appears traditional-oldy-worldy-ish but everything has such a modern, clean and fresh look to it. As you wander around, you'll notice bits of furniture and odd 'decorations' that just make all the difference.. the decor has really well thought about and it has a wonderful charm to it all.

"Out of This World"

In June we hired the Chateau for 3 nights for our wedding and I can only say it was out of this world. The organisation from Nicky and Mark (the owners) was first class, the food was mouth watering and the chateau itself was breath taking. Honestly we felt at home here and we will remember this experience for the rest of our lives. I have stayed in a number of places around the world and have never experienced the detail to attention and such top end quality like this!

"Perfect Combination"

The mix of the traditional chateau setting and ultra modern rooms and facilities make this place a real gem. You will struggle to find this perfect combination elsewhere in France. We have looked! Needless to say that we have booked the chateau for our ceremony. We loved it! If the magic of the castle does not win you over, the charm of Nicky and Mark will!

"Very Professional and Superbly Helpful"

Our daughter's wedding was the most wonderful experience for all of us staying for the weekend at the chateau. The location was excellent - right next to a charming village. The chateau itself is stunningly beautiful, the owners charming, very professional and superbly helpful. We were a group in age from 3 years old to 76, and every age found something to delight them ranging from propping up the elegant bar, playing hide and seek and billiards, to diving into the impressive, but safe and secure, swimming pool. The spacious rooms were a harmonious blend of antique and modern and the chateau although large was very comfortable and cosy. We could not recommend the chateau highly enough for any group and for any purpose. Suite 2 was our room and perfect in every way.

"a wonderful place"

We went for 3 days for my sister's wedding and all had a fantastic time. The owners were friendly and helpful. They were there whenever needed, but never intrusive. Our kids are 6 and 3 and we found it worked okay sleepwise as they were able to come downstairs and find us in the evenings if they needed to. (We had the family suite above the main entrance which was up a few flights of stairs but simple for kids to find their way down to the main living areas). We hired a babysitter for the night of the wedding so we didn't need to worry about putting them back to bed if they came down and that worked really well. The pool is enclosed and securely locked so that wasn't a safety issue and the kids loved the space to roam around in the gardens. The caterer's food was superb and Nicky made an excellent job of the flower arrangements. The room where the wedding ceremony was held was stunning with floor to ceiling windows with views of the garden. The decor is funky but tasteful and lends itself to a house party atmosphere. Even though the weather wasn't great during our 3 day stay, with the pool room and the cinema room there was enough to keep everyone occupied indoors if it was wet outside. All in all a great stay and the chateau is a wonderful place for a happy and memorable occasion.
